Call for applications: Northwestern University's Chicago Humanities Initiative, an 8-week practicum for PhD students interested in exploring how their graduate training can serve a broader public. Combines credit-bearing seminar with personalized placement at an arts, culture, or community organization. Runs June 29-August 21, 2020. Scott Sowerby receives NEH fellowship

Congratulations to Scott Sowerby, Associate Professor in History, for receiving a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Humanities! The grant will support Sowerby's book project, The Violent Origins of Religious Toleration in Early Modern Europe, 1520-1800. The NEH awarded $30.9 million for 188 humanities projects nationwide. Kaplan welcomes Artist in Residence M. Carmen Lane

In partnership with the Department of Art Theory and Practice, the Kaplan Humanities Institute is delighted to welcome M. Carmen Lane as Artist in Residence for February 2020. Lane is a two:spirit African-American and Haudenosaunee (Mohawk/Tuscarora) artist, writer, and facilitator living in Cleveland. Lane will present a talk with Michael Rakowitz (artist and professor in Art Theory and Practice) on February 18, 2020 at the Block Museum.
