Manuscript Workshops

A manuscript workshop when a book project is nearing completion can be of critical help to the author. Tenured experts in the relevant field, when reading a manuscript and offering feedback, can help an author sharpen arguments, streamline chapter organization, and generally anticipate and work through issues that might otherwise be flagged when a press sends the manuscript out for review.

Kaplan Humanities Institute invites faculty to apply for funds to help them prepare their book manuscript for publication. Funds can be used to convene a small group of experts to review and help refine the work. Workshops eligible for support should include one or more external reviewers (in addition to any relevant faculty from Northwestern). Applicants are expected to pursue other sources of institutional funding (College and Department) first, and the proposed budget should reflect those contributions.

Deadline

Ongoing until funds are depleted.

Eligibility

Regular faculty including tenure-track or tenured faculty at the assistant professor level or above, professional library staff members, and teaching track faculty with continuing appointments are eligible to apply.

Award

Kaplan support will be capped at $1,000.
